Natsource Launches New GHG Aggregation Pool
Natsource, LLC recently announced that its wholly owned subsidiary
Natsource Asset Management Corporation (NAM) has launched the
Greenhouse Gas Credit Aggregation Pool (GG-CAP), which will purchase
and manage the delivery of a pool of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission
reductions (ERs) that GG-CAP buyers can use to comply with European
Union (EU) emissions trading scheme (ETS) and the Kyoto Protocol ER
requirements.
According to Natsource, GG-CAP will assist buyers by using a pooling
approach to purchasing GHG ERs. Natsource said participants in
GG-CAP's first closing included six European, Japanese and Canadian
firms.
"Over the past several years, it has become clear that our clients
will be required to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions," said
Natsource president Jack Cogen. "We have a global team of experts
who possess unparalleled expertise in the policies that created the
greenhouse gas market and significant commercial experience in
contracting for such reductions."

WWF-UK Conducts Climate Change 'Stunt' at Parliament
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-UK projected onto the British
Parliament's Palace of Westminster last week an image of the River
Thames rising high up the side of the palace along with the message
"Vote to Stop Climate Chaos" as part of a new campaign to urge
politicians to take tougher action on climate change as the general
election nears.
According to WWF-UK, research reveals that if current trends
continue, central London could be submerged within the next 100
years. Additionally, WWF-UK noted that half of the 55 times the
Thames barrier has been activated in the 20 years since it was built
as a result of tidal surges were during the last five years.
WWF-UK said the government itself has predicted that the Thames
barrier might have to be raised up to 325 times a year by 2100.
"We may only have a decade to take action to reduce soaring
greenhouse gas emissions and prevent the worst impacts of climate
change becoming reality," said WWF-UK director of campaigns Andrew
Lee. "It is vital that the next government makes the right decisions
over the next parliamentary term. Ignoring the issue is not an
option."

NRCan Details Plans for Energy-efficient Homes in Ontario
Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) recently announced plans for
Jackson Trails, a new development in the western section of Ottawa,
Ontario, that will feature Energy Star-qualified, energy-efficient
homes. Energy Star for New Homes is an initiative of NRCan and such
stakeholders as the Ontario Ministry of Energy, the Ontario Home
Builders' Association and Enbridge Gas.
NRCan said the new 300-home community will be constructed by Tartan
Homes and Tamarack Homes, with each home built to Energy Star
specifications, which is approximately 40-percent more efficient
than homes built to minimum Ontario Building Code standards.
"The increased efficiency of Energy Star-qualified homes will
translate into reduced energy costs for homeowners," said NRCan.
"Typical energy efficiency measures for these homes include
insulation upgrades, higher-performance windows, sealed air ducts,
better draft-proofing and more efficient heating and air
conditioning systems."
